first of all. this is no april fool. i FINALLLLLLLLY finished my first chair! i just completed the sealing procedure— i sealed the entire chair with clear gloss wood finish (polycrylic minwax) to seal the gorgeous stain and paint so it can last for the years to come.
i think it looks really good. i can’t believe that i finally finished that chair. it felt like never-ending project! i can’t wait to see how it looks at the senior art exhibition under the bright lights and white walls.
so yes i have named this chair the “Chair, No. 1” because its my very first chair project that i have accomplished and i can’t think of any better name than that.
thats all for now!

i have been rummaging through all of the files on my external HD and wow i have found so many things that i have forgotten all about it. it was a stroll down on the memory lane! here’s something that i made back in the day when i first got my DSLR camera— i took plenty of self-portraits (and i still do today lol) and this is something i whipped up back in the day.
ahh, memories! i can’t wait til i graduate in few weeks so i can have more time to play around and create more masterpieces. i sure do hope that the time will go slower after graduation!
i finally splurged on a fish eye lens!!! the best gift to myself!! here’s my dearest z in his lazy mode on a lazy sunday! xoxo
today was the very first day of the “PROJECT: CHAIRS”!
i’d have to say it was very productive!

don’t we look fabulous?! and yes we were looking forward to get our hands dirty! speaking of dirty hands, my hands was covered with toxic paint stripper (i wore protective gloves, and they were covered with the scary stuff) which limited my accessibility to my iPhone to snap snap more pictures. gotta find a way to snap more photos tomorrow :)
here’s the chair, number one!

yep am gonna do the before & after pictures of all chairs starring in the PROJECT: CHAIRS
so, here’s the chair number two:

yep this is the navy chair. the average cost of a single navy chair in perfect condition ranges from 200 to 900 bucks. ain’t believing me? see it for yourself here! crazy huh? anyway i have two pairs of the navy chair and the brown areas is metal all painted over. its a beautiful mix of wood and metal! the goal is to strip all of brown paint on the metal parts and we were hoping that the metal is pretty silver so we can leave it in the original state. it’ll look fabulous in our new dining area with the farmer table! so excited!
anyway… guess what?! the result of the end of the day— we stripped one of navy chairs and WHOAH! it looks amazing and yep the metal is gorgeous silver!

compare these two twins!

i don’t think they’re related anymore.
its just crazy! but yikes we ruined the beautiful wood— we taped all of the wood to prevent any paint stripping damage to the gorgeous wood, apparently the tape weren’t thick enough so the chemicals went through and damaged some areas :(

maybe we will strip the whole thing and re-finish it. hmmmm.
anyway yay for a productive day!!!
tomorrow yael will zoom back to dc— she has to work tomorrow, everyone should have spring break including gov’t employees!! oh well but she will be back by this friday for the weekend! am gonna miss her terribly this week— thank goodness for FaceTime! :)
toodles!

finally. here it is! my sparkly brand new blog is now up and running! this blog is going to be all about the pretty little things in life.
i’m now on my spring break, actually my very last spring break ever (too surreal), and i’ve decided to stay put for the break, since i’ve found a whopping total of 8, yes i repeat, EIGHT, chairs in total lying around my neighborhood within 2 mere weeks. of course i could not just leave them all alone and lonely on the streets, i dragged every single one and stacked them up in my dingy little storage area. i found them while i was walking with mister z, the perks of having a pup! so yep, i’m kicking off this blog with a project that i just decided to call, “PROJECT: CHAIRS”.
i’ve decided to transport all 8 chairs over to frederick, md, to my parents’ casa since they got this 2-car garage with spacious driveway where i can make whole lotta of mess for this project. i love living in the city so much but i love my big work spaces so here i am in the garage with all of my 8 wooden vintagey chairs. hello “PROJECT: CHAIRS”, you & me will have oodles of fun this week!
my goal for the “PROJECT: CHAIRS” is to finish as much chairs as i can. i have this two chairs that i’ve researched and found the name of them, they’re best known as navy chairs, you can see an example of navy chairs here. these chairs is just a perfect match for our new dining area in our teensy tiny condo. we just ordered a custom-made farmers table to fit our size— i am sooooooooo excited to have a dining area!! anyway these pair of navy chairs is a beautiful mix of wood and metal and unfournately the former owner painted the metal parts of the chair in brown!! so i’m gonna do some stripping. yes stripping, just paint stripping, thank you. to get rid of all brown paint and hopefully the metal parts is still in fabulous condition so we can leave it in its original color! its gonna look fabulous, i just know it!!! another project would be for my senior art exhibition show, the opening is this april 19th, i have picked out which chair to use, but i’m still thinking of ideas of what to do w that darling wooden school chair. hmmmm.
yay i’m excited for a very creative yet productive week for me!! and i’m excited for this new addition, my new blog!! yum!
xoxo, miki
